7 Steps for Creating an Orientation Plan Video

Onboarding Success Part 2 of 2

What should you include in your Sales Onboarding Orientation plan to get off to a fast start? There is a group of people at your company who know. Check out this video for a simple process on how to develop your plan. Below are 7 Steps for Creating an Orientation Plan.

1. Get a Team Together

The first thing I do is I get an orientation team together. This would include people from different departments. For instance, you want to find the ones who understand what the new hire will need to know to be successful.

2. Start Brainstorming

Have a meeting with your team and start brainstorming ideas on what information your new hire needs. Let the team know that there are no bad ideas. Everything is on the table.

3. Categorize

Categorize all the ideas that were brainstormed. This will make the next step of your orientation plan much easier.

4. Eliminate What’s Not Important

With all the ideas on the table there are usually some duplicates and so it’s good to flush those out. And there most likely are ideas that were good in the brainstorming session, but are not that important to the orientation plan now. In addition, agree on what is important and what isn’t.

5. Assign Responsibility

At this point, we need someone to coordinate the teaching. What persons are going to be responsible for teaching the list? Also, remember to include your vendors to help with education. Additionally, schedule any formal training that you think would be helpful.

6. Make a Schedule

Now it’s time to set up a schedule to implement your orientation plan. I’m a piece-it-together guy. So I usually do one week at a time. This works well for small businesses. There are times we don’t accomplish everything we set out to do. Keep working the list and put a schedule together every week.

7. Keep Track of Progress

Usually the hiring manager or an HR person will be in charge of the “Master List”. I love using a Zoho sheet or a Google sheet where it’s dynamic and everyone can add notes. This way it is easy to keep track of progress.

To conclude, following these 7 Steps for Orientation will make the transition smooth for your new hire and for your business in general.
